this is why I said If a college player is dropped they should be available to everyone who hasn't rostered them previously at 0/4. This prevents "extending" contracts.
Its like when the NFL drafts a player who may chose baseball, they still hold the players rights. The rights don't become a contract until promoted to the league. Eason was drafted and his rights were held. If he was redrafted by the same team his 4 year rights/"contract" would start from when he was originally drafted. If his rights are released anyone else should be able to draft him at 0/4.
Obviously this is something that won't happen a lot but what would this hurt? As it stands now, it can be detrimental to the league, especially with the high turnover the league has experienced recently.

I’m going to offer a compromise solution here, since I can see both sides. Generally speaking, I don’t think we should adjust contract terms. However, in case like this where a college player is dropped and is still in college, what if we made him draft eligible with a 0/3 contract? Typically, top prospects are picked in our league 2 years before they get to the NFL (i.e. Tua, Herbert, etc.), so when they get to the NFL they have a 0/2 contract. If we made Eason’s contract 0/3 this year, he’d be in the same situation next year at 0/2. I think making his contract 0/4 is too much of an extension, but I’d be fine with 0/3. Thoughts?

Rich - I'm not sure what you mean by McSorley released?
He was dropped in this league and is on a released list.
Am I missing something?

It's clear this issue with Eason isn't going away.
I suggest that Rich, Ron, or both draft a rule change and put it to a league vote. We're not pressed for time on this issue because Eason isn't going to be in the NFL for a while.

Rich said: "If you release a player on a 0 contract you can't pick him up again unless you promote him to your active roster"
I don't think that's true. We have had zero-cost players dropped from a rookie roster and picked up again. As long as the player was never placed on an active roster, his eligibility for the rookie roster is unaffected.

I would leave the contract as is. I didn't know you couldn't add a released prospect to your college roster. As long as the player never played in NFL I think you should be able to do that & I think that has been done in the past.

So released college players can be added to a roster or college squad at any time?

Can be added to the active roster after the FA Draft is over. Once the FA Draft has been closed, pick players up on ESPN and make sure they clear waivers before declaring it on the message board.
The only way a zero-cost player can be added to the rookie roster is if that player has never been on an active roster in this league. To determine that, you can search the player and check the history.
I think that what's being proposed is an "Eason rule" that would allow released zero-cost players to be redrafted during the rookie draft, as long as that player still retained rookie/college status in real life. (If I have stated this incorrectly, please correct it.)

We don't have a provision for adding zero-cost players during the FA Draft. Players drafted as FA's carry a 1/1 contract unless they are already on a higher contract on a released list, then the higher cost applies.
After the FA draft is over, you can pick up a 0-contract player via the waiver claims on ESPN. If the waiver claim goes through in your favor, he's yours.

What if the player was jacob eason would he be eligible in the FA bid rounds or FA draft?
Jacob eason isn't on ESPN yet, but he has a contract and was released
you did say this
"We have had zero-cost players dropped from a rookie roster and picked up again.
As long as the player was never placed on an active roster, his eligibility for the rookie roster is unaffected."
