for the record I didn't know Eason had been drafted in 2017 until Jeremy posted it. He didn't sho3w on Ben's college list which I used as a crutch. He wasn't on the list because he was released in 2018. He is on Soultakers 2018 roster as released with a 0/3 contract.
As to the 0/2 contract that is not much of an advantage. He is still in college; if he comes out after this year and is drafted he will have a 0/1 contract. Not likely to be a factor unless he turns into Brees.

Yeah I'm not sure upholding the original rookie contracts is best because it could lead to people intentionally drafting and dropping freshman players who would then have shorter deals when they get to the league. If a college player is dropped they should be available to everyone who hasn't rostered them previously at 0/4. If I wanted to draft Bo Nix with my next pick just to drop him after this season and he plays 4 years then no one would be able to have him on a roster for 0. Even if he came out after his Junior season, the best you could have is 0/1. This is an easy way for someone to manipulate the younger talent

Actually, in your example, a player drafted in his freshman year would be eligible to be drafted again for his rookie NFL year.
I think there are better ways to deal with an owner who intentionally does what you’re suggesting. It would also be very short-sighted on his part. There is too much value in drafting a real prospect to waste the pick on game-playing.

I agree Mike. I think if you want to draft a player that was released you can have them for their current contract. Players dont look like they are going to work out and they are dropped all the time. It's a guessing game.

Not to beat a dead horse but I'll beat a dead horse. Jacob Eason is a Junior and therefore it is possible he could never go to the pros before his contract runs out. This is not going to happen because, like most players, he will go pro after his Junior year but it is possible.

Eason was drafted probably b4 his freshman year and released here in the next year probably because of his injury in his freshman year.. He transferred schools so will be behind the class. To me if a college player is picked here and is released here and is still in college he should receive a new contract. the other extreme situation is the college players who never get drafted by us while in college, yet make a pro team's roster and get rewarded with a 0/4 contract. We have tons of those on our "college" rosters.

This league has 48 released players still on zero-cost contracts. I don't know how many of them are still rookie-eligible, but I know that quite a few are.
Are you proposing that any player previously drafted can have an existing contract extended just by drafting him again?
Which means that I could draft McSorley and have his 0/3 contract cancelled and start over with 0/4?
Doesn't sound right to me.

I thought Rich was only talking about players drafted in College, dropped while still in College and then resigned in College.

No. To me if you release a player that is still in college you are relinquishing your rights to him and he is fair game for drafting again. My understanding is the only time a player can be put on the college roster is via the college draft. If you release a player on a 0 contract you can't pick him up again unless you promote him to your active roster; why would you do that if he is still in college? Eason is not the only 0 contract that falls into this category.
