Yes, the contract numbers show salary in millions first, then years remaining under contract. Released players under contract remain in your salary total until their contract expires or they are picked up by someone else who assumes that cost. Any of the college players you don't like can be dropped and you can draft new college players in their place with (0/4) contracts. After we bid on players for this year, any players not chosen become part of the FA pool - all FA players carry a (1/1) contract. Trades can include active players, IR players, college players, or draft picks. (No trading between the Backyards football and the Sandlots baseball league.)

Also, the Loyalty List works like this: These players were on your roster at the end of last season but their contracts have expired. If you bid on these players and your bid ties with another owner, you get the player by virtue of loyalty rights. If the other owner outbids you in money/years, then you don't get to keep him. If you have a player on the loyalty list that you really like and you think that others also covet him, then bidding 8/4 for him ensures that he will return to your team.

How does the bidding process work? Also, is 5 the max on College players?

The bidding on players works like this: Everyone submits bids of up to 15 players based on $salary and years commitment. Your bids are ranked 1-15. The tie-breakers for bids in order are $, years, loyalty rights, bid rank. After all bids are submitted, the commish or his lowly assistant go through them and award the winning bids. After the winning bids are published, along with second and third place bids, you decide which of your winning bids you actually want to sign (the first two winning bids are mandatory.) If you pass on any winning bids, that player passes down to the second highest bidder, and then to the third if the second bidder doesn't sign. After the first bid round, we repeat the process for the second round. Once the bid rounds are completed and all signings complete, we hold an FA draft where we pick in order and each FA costs 1/1.
The college roster has a maximum of six.

J - it takes a little while to put it all together, but it's fun. My first year, I submitted first round bids and won none of them - was I bummed out. It gets better.

Yes, you can do both of those.
When you post a change to your roster and put it into the "Transactions" thread, you'll know that it's been cleared and processed when Dan or I edit your post with an "All Set" or a "DONE" message. That also means that your roster on the message board has been adjusted.
In this case, because the ESPN rosters are locked, I'll have to make the change there also to add Miller. (During the season, you'll be able to make the change on ESPN league pages yourself.)
The dropped college players will remain on your released list until their contracts expire or someone else picks them up. You'll get to draft six new ones in the upcoming draft.

Ok sorry for all the questions, but just wanted to clarify things. In the rules it says...
5.....Maximum Contracts will be 8 million and 4 years. Minimum will be 1 and 1.
That max equals $2/year for 4 season, but on my roster I have Smith and Green for 7 and 8, respectively. How does that work. Is there a min. bid and how did those guys go for more
Also, why are Sims-Walker and James Starks on my released list but still count towards my salary. Sorry if this all mentioned somewhere, thought I looked but couldn't find anything addressing it

No problem - ask as much as you want - it's a lot to take on in a short period of time. And we don't want any owner disadvantaged because they don't know all the rules yet.
The contracts are in $/year and duration, so an 8/4 contract is for a total of $32 million. Max bid is $8 million/year and minimum is $1 million. All bids in whole numbers, no decimals.
Once a player is signed to a contract, his salary is your responsibility until one of the following happens: He is traded away. You drop him and someone else picks him up and takes on his contract. He retires (or commits murder) - then his contract drops by half and goes down to one year. He dies - then his contract ends immediately. His contract expires.
NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, but our fantasy ones are...
If you decide that one of the players on your dropped list might be useful to your team, you can pick him up without changing your total team salary. (In the baseball league, dropped players are more numerous, and they are picked up and dropped more often.)

Jeremy - in looking over the rosters for bid purposes, Rich Ormsbee found an error on your roster. Jared Cook had a (4/3) contract last year, and was shown as (4/3) again this year. My mistake. I've corrected it to (4/2). Sorry for the confusion if you noticed the change.
